Last year, AET had the opportunity to restore and remanufacture a pair of TD04-11G-6.0 turbochargers for a customer’s 1990 Mitsubishi 3000GT (GTO) – one of the most technologically ambitious Japanese performance cars of its era.
Launched in 1990 at the turn of the decade, the 3000GT represented Mitsubishi’s push into a new generation of high-performance engineering. Its 3.0-litre V6 engine was offered in naturally aspirated form or as a twin-turbocharged unit producing upwards of 280 BHP, supported by an intercooler system and a sophisticated electronically controlled variable intake setup. Paired with four-wheel drive, the car delivered remarkable balance, traction, and stability, helping it set itself apart from the period’s emerging “super-GT” segment.

What truly set the 3000GT apart though was its impressive array of active technologies. Features such as a variable rear spoiler, adjustable suspension, four-wheel steering, and the memorable ‘Active Exhaust System’ – which let drivers switch between a subdued or more aggressive exhaust tone – showcased Mitsubishi’s commitment to innovation.
As these vehicles move firmly into modern-classic territory, preserving their performance and originality has become increasingly important to owners. Therefore, remanufacturing the twin TD04-11G-6.0 turbochargers required specialist knowledge and meticulous attention to detail.
With more than five decades of experience and ISO 9001 accreditation, AET continues to support enthusiasts across the automotive, motorsport, industrial, marine, and power sectors with premium turbocharger solutions and services.
