This year, we mark an extraordinary milestone: 40 years of service from the one and only Martin Thornton.
Earlier this year, the whole AET team gathered for an afternoon of celebration in Martin’s honour – a well-deserved tribute to his incredible four decades of service to the company.

Martin’s story with AET began in September 1985, following the infamous pit closures that had such a profound impact on our region. Martin, a proud Yorkshireman from the local town of Castleford, was offered a role as a turbo builder by our founder, the late Tony Taylor, who saw his potential and character from the outset. Forty years later, Martin remains an invaluable member of the team and is held in the highest regard by his colleagues.
With unmatched knowledge, a readiness to tackle any challenge, and a kindness that touches everyone around him, Martin has earned a reputation summed up in one word: legend. From identifying the rarest of turbo parts to knowing exactly where everything lives in the building, his expertise is second to none.
But beyond his skills, it’s Martin’s nature that truly shines. For 40 years, he has been someone people can always depend on – steadfast, generous, and at the very heart of AET. No task has ever been too challenging, and no act of kindness too small. He is always the first to lend a hand, the first to share a word of encouragement, and the first to go out of his way to support others. To us, Martin is more than a colleague – he is both a mentor and a friend.

Over the past 40 years, Martin has seen AET grow, adapt, and thrive through changing times. And through it all, he has remained a constant – a cornerstone of our success and a living example of the values that define our business. His dedication and loyalty have left an indelible mark on our history and culture. Quite simply: AET would not be the same without him.
His warm presence means a great deal to us, and he continues to make AET a better place to work every single day. We are deeply proud to celebrate this incredible milestone with him, and we look forward to many more years of his friendship, guidance and humour.
Here’s to you, Martin – Reyt… do you want a cuppa?
