Spring Soft Tops – Our Favourite Turbocharged Roadsters of 2015

That’s right, spring is here! With the weather improving, it’s got everyone at AET dreaming about a barbecue summer.

Whilst the British summer might be hit and miss weather wise, there’s little better than driving down an open road in a fast, 2 seater convertible, with the wind rushing through your hair on a hot summers day.

This month, we’re getting our tops down, with a list of 5 of our favourite turbocharged roadsters available in 2015, guaranteed to raise a smile when the sun is shining.

Jaguar F-Type

Fast, agile and beautiful, the Jaguar F-Type is a simply stunning car. Charming and great to drive, it’s the spiritual successor to the iconic E-Type, and looks destined to become a modern classic.

This year, it looks like Jaguar will be adding a new turbocharged 4 cylinder entry level model to the range, making the F-Type more affordable, more efficient and more accessible. Our sources reckon the new 2 litre model should be good for around 300bhp, making it a very worthy addition to the line-up.

Audi TT

No list of top turbocharged roadsters could be without the Audi TT.

Now in its third generation, the multi award-winning TT is one of the most celebrated cars in it’s class, and it’s easy to see why. The new model features a more aggressive, contemporary styling inspired by the Audi R8, meaning it looks as good today as it did when it was launched in 1998.

A refined premium cruiser that’s fun to drive and great to look at, it boasts strong performance, great handling and rock solid residuals. It’s a fantastic, high quality roadster that’s made for sunny days.

BMW z4

With stunning looks and a quality cabin, there are few places we’d rather be on a sunny day than in the driving seat of a BMW z4. A desirable and upmarket cruiser, it’s comfortable and grown up, without ever being boring.

From a strong and flexible entry level 2.0 litre turbo that’s great for cruising, right up to a flagship 3.0 litre twin-turbo that’ll do 0-60 in under 4.8 seconds, the BMW z4 looks and drives like a real sports car should.

With a bit of haggling, you should be able to get a new z4 for under £25,000, and there’s a great second hand market, making it the most affordable roadster on our list.

Mercedes SL500

If you’re looking for a truly decadent, luxury roadster, then look no further than the Mercedes SL series. Mercedes flagship roadster model since the 1950s, it’s comfortable, classy and effortlessly cool.

Whilst the SL might not be quite as brash or sporty looking as some of the roadsters on this list, it doesn’t need to be. As a luxurious Grand Tourer, it’s peerless, combining fantastic performance and effortless power with stunning handling.

Inside the cabin, the SL500 is relaxed, spacious and comfortable, with loads of equipment, making it as mature and usable as it is luxurious and fun to drive.

Porsche 911 Cabriolet Turbo

The 911 Turbo is Porsche’s range topper, and it’s a truly fabulous roadster. Poised, precise and extremely powerful, driving a 911 at speed is one of the great joys in life!

Balanced and refined, the handling on the cabriolet almost matches the coupe, and the interior is as high quality as you’d expect from a premium Porsche. Near the top of any keen petrolhead’s wish list, the agile and unique 911 is a one of kind, iconic car you want to own before you die.
