They are also the world’s largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines, producing more than 14 million internal combustion engines each year. In 2001, Honda surpassed Nissan to become the second-largest Japanese automobile manufacturer, and, in August 2008, Honda overtook Chrysler as the fourth largest vehicle manufacturer in the United States.
